Why do we need cooling during centrifugation?

Some of our readers have doubts after reading the last post. Why there is such a big difference of -20°C on the chamber wall while only 4°C on the sampling position? This is because, during centrifugation, the spinning of the rotor will create some gaseous friction with the air in the chamber. Imagine the rotor is spinning at a very high speed in a centrifuge and this will then generate a lot of heat. This phenomenon explains the differences in chamber and sample tube temperature.
